Possibility of using Java instead of Lisp on first project
One student requested for permission to use Java instead of Lisp for doing
the first project.
This particular student made the case that he/she will have so much
trouble getting accustomed to lisp that he/she is not
going to be able to learn from project 1.
To be uniform across the class, I am willing to allow Java instead of lisp
for this project under the following conditions:
1. There will be a penalty (approximately 20-30%) for not using lisp (this
is to be fair to people who invested the time
and effort to get re-acquainted with lisp; and to acknowledge the fact
that the project 1 was kept simple to make up for
lisp deficiencies...)
2. We will not be responsible for any java programming support (we "may"
be able to provide skeletal code that looks sort of equivalent to
the lisp code I provided, but you may still have to make-up for
differences between Lisp and Java).
If you think you really want to have the flexibility to use Java, please
let me know as soon as possible.
