Wow, you're the first professor I've had that's taken the time to even think
about which student faces they recognize and which they don't.  That's quite
amiable.

I'm surprised my id got an 'x', I don't think I've ever introduced myself (no
fault of your own).  But I guess that means you recognize that I'm
occasionally tardy and have nearly fallen asleep in you're lectures more then
once. I apologize for that btw, please don't let that reflect on my perception
of the material or your lecture skills.  I enjoy the class, I really enjoy the
subject.. I'm just a bit overworked this semester, it's unfortunate because I
wanted to really devote some serious time to the class, rather then just
catching up on homework and projects as I have been doing.

Regarding the HAL program on PBS, it seemed that the AI research was pretty
disparate with conflicting perceptions of what direction the field should
take. They seemed to dance around the idea of consciousness, refering to HAL,
(talking about emotions) but without any defined concept of computer
consciousness (or human consciousness for that matter).  I wasn't sure if that
was just for the purposes of the show, to entice the audience, or are AI
researchers really concerned with creating a conscious computer
mind?  And if so, do they have an idea of what that consciousness would be
like? 

In the end I guess I am just underimpressed with the progress of AI, but of
course we don't have flying cars either - and a flying car would seem simpler
to create then HAL. :)
