Announcements made in the last class...

For the record, here is a repeat of the announcements made in the
first class:

1. You are asked to start reading the first paper on the reading
   list for Thursday's class (this is on text retrieval)

2. The homework 1 "socket" is open and has a refresher exercise on
   linear algebra. (The readings list has some links to linear algebra 
   refreshers that you could use).
