I happened to notice the note at the top of the Axis Wannabees
indicating it was 'edited by Dr. Griessman'... so instead of taking
care
of far more important/productive work, I Googled for possibly a
longer, unedited version on the internet...
And lo'... turns out our glowing praise of Cleese was misdirected..
at
least in this case. The piece wasn't written by Cleese at all!
(yet
another example of trusting anything you pick up off the internet).
It
first appeared in online paper Satirewire.com
http://www.satirewire.com/news/jan02/axis.shtml
and subsequently appeared in several newspapers, incl the Washington
Post,
Sunday, February 10, 2002 -which has a slightly longer version due to
some
pithy comments:

.
It was written by Andrew Marlatt who apparently has/will have a
book out
"Economy of Errors" (Broadway Books). -That might be
worth having a look
at.
