Dear planning list subscribers:
In my spare time, I dabble in database research. One feature that
I liked in the semi-formal Sigmod Record is a feature
called "Reminiscences about influential papers"--where senior and
not-so-senior members share their reflections (usually about half-page
long) on a specific paper that they particularly liked and were
influeced by.
Given the significant new blood in planning these days (this little
list has 300 members now..), I think it would be nice for us to copy
the idea. (Besides, if DB folks can find interesting papers from their
past, imagine how easy it should be for us... ;-)
So, here is a call to the members of the list to share with the list at
large their reminiscences about one or two influential papers. The
comments can be just plain text. I will not edit any mails and just
forward them to the list.
I hope some of you will take me up on this.. Comments on papers
published both B.G. and A.G. are welcome (with a slight personal
preference for B.G.).

ps: Here are some examples from sigmod record to give you an
idea

pps: I know--summer in Arizona is conducive for hatching up many a
crazy scheme
ppps: needless to say, it would be much more effective if your reminescences are about a paper not (co)authored by you ..
