Attendance and participation...

In the last couple of classes, I have seen a large variation in the
number of people attending the class. 

If the people who are not showing up are not showing up because they
have dropped or intending to drop the class, that is well and good. I
am all for natural selection.

For those still registered, I would like to strongly encourage 100%
attendance, not just because I love audience, but also because in an
semi-structured course like this, missing classes is likely to
significantly reduce your chances of catching up with the class, and I
would resent having to deal with any blank-stares that are not entirely
caused by my teaching ;-) 

I may start circulating an attendance sheet starting next class.
