commentary on dilbert mutex cartoon

Here is the commentary on the Dilbert "Mutex" cartoon by David Smith--a man who dreams in mutex..

See if you can understand what he is saying based on the (technical) discussion from yesterday's class

I have to talk about mutex relations in the class tomorrow ;-)

The important question for Alice is whether this is a transient mutex or a persistent mutex.  Unfortunately, these goals are deadline goals and the end of the year is an exogenous condition, which complicates the reasoning.  I guess what would otherwise appear as a transient mutex can effectively become a permanent mutex if one or more of the goals involved is a deadline goal, or if there are exogenous events present that cause a goal to subsequently become impossible.
